Based in Rugby, our Academy offers high quality coaching to developing junior athletes who are looking to take their performance to the next level. This group led by WTC lead coach James Wright and is aimed at U17/U20 athletes in the following event groups:

  • Sprints -100m, 200m, 300/400m

  • Hurdles - 80/100/110mH, 300/400mH

  • Horizontal Jumps - Long Jump and Triple Jump

The purpose of our Academy is to bridge the gap between junior and senior performance. The transition from talented junior to successful senior is a big jump and as a result often comes with many challenges. We want to help guide athletes through this  stage of their journey in the sport and thus give them the best possible chance of making a successful transition to senior performance

Our Academy group operates with our long term development ethos very much in mind. Our athletes work off an event specific training programme which is designed around four key principles:

Technical Development

Acceleration and speed underpin all the events our Academy offers. We aim to help our athletes acquire and develop these skills and qualities to benefit their performance. We also develop event specific skills and technical models for the various events we offer

Physical Preparation

By integrating essential strength and conditioning work we aim to help athletes unlock higher levels of performance on the track and also reduce short and long term injury risk

Athlete Education

We encourage our athletes to take more ownership of their development and challenge them to further understand their training process. We also educate them about factors away from the track that influence performance such as nutrition, sleep and self maintenance

Personal Development

We want to develop the athlete as a person and provide them with skills that will benefit them in life away from the track
